Areas of Energy and Climate Research

Consistent with academia’s role of engaging with industry, IICEC is committed to foster research partnerships between academia and industry. IICEC seeks partners in industry, private donors, and public institutions to support a broad portfolio of research, concentrating in energy issues of international significance and climate change. Research carried out at IICEC is designed to include the following topics:

  • Energy policies to achieve a balanced portfolio of energy priorities including:
    • increasing clean energy supplies;
    • increasing energy efficiency;
    • diversifying sources of energy;
    • achieving national energy security;
    • meeting growing energy service demand at competitive conditions and prices; reasonable consumer prices; and
    • meeting the energy needs of the developing world in a sustainable manner.
  • Providing up-to-date information and analysis of international petroleum, natural gas markets, power markets, renewables, and other relevant topics.
  • Modeling energy markets and energy trade.
  • Developing strategy and policy options for secure, competitive and efficient power and natural gas markets. 
  • Developing strategies and policies to achieve a sustainable and efficient transportation system.
  • Analysis of the development and diffusion of innovative energy technologies, business models and services.
  • Identifying changes in energy consumer needs and behavior and how they affect energy markets and achieving energy policy goals.
  • Conducting research (using the full resources of Sabancı University) to develop advanced clean energy technologies.
  • Analyzing the geopolitics of energy trade.
  • Analyzing the water-energy nexus.
